can i paint stucco that was done in the 70's with the hard coating (stones)?

our house has stone prressed into the stucco. we would like to keep the stucco but want to refresh the color. what is the best method for this? thanks in advance,

it would be a bad idea if you painted over the stucco rock dash, best thing is to get a re-stucco
